- Letter to STGA from Lord Mayor Cllr James Baillie thanking us for our support in his year in office and recognition of reaching our 50th anniversary.
Members of Southampton Tourist Guides Association were present at the 'Mayor Making' ceremony on Wednesday 20th May 2026. Chair Kim Golder, members Inge Foster, Beverley Holmes and Mary Taylor attended to hear the nominations for and witness appointments to the posts of Lord Mayor and Sheriff, together with the presentation of the Children’s Mayor for 2026-7, and presentation of the City of Southampton Awards.
The ceremony was marked by delightful singing by local primary school children as well as the usual ceremonies, all beautifully coordinated by the staff of the LM office Lily and Lisa, and announced by the Town Crier Alan Spencer. Southampton's 804th Right Worshipful Mayor and 5th Lord Mayor of Southampton Councillor Patricia [Pat] Evemy, was sworn in.
Also confirmed to her appointment was Sheriff Catherine [Kat] Barbour, and Mayor Consort Mr Steve Evemy received his ceremonial chain of office.
According to SCC website, Lord Mayor Cllr Pat Evemy is Community Champion for Heritage and lists her employment history in heritage and urban regeneration.
Pat is currently advising on the care, repair funding and wider community use of historic churches. Pat’s areas of interest include heritage, and some of us have already met her and her husband, Steve, at meetings of Southampton Archaeological Society and other historical talks.
Pat has already kindly confirmed that she will continue as Patron of Southampton Tourist Guides Association and we are in the process of arranging a date for an annual Mayoral guided walk.
The outgoing Lord Mayor Cllr James Baillie gave an excellent speech reflecting on his year in office, and pages of the event programme are attached for your information. Southampton Tourist Guides Association were delighted to recently receive a personal letter from James, thanking us for our kindness, friendship and support during his year in office. James’ letter is reproduced here in full for your info – a really lovely letter focusing on our achievement in reaching our 50th Anniversary and all we do for the City. It also reflects the enthusiasm with which James has embraced the role of Lord Mayor, ably supported by his wife Becky and their boys.
It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with James and the Lord Mayor office team over the past year, and we look forward to continuing that special relationship with Lord Mayor Cllr Pat Evemy and her team.
